Chances are you live a go-go lifestyle, which may or may not include a combination of work meetings, hitting the gym, playing sports, and partying. We by no means want to suggest you should be regularly skipping showers, but also understand (possibly better than most) that there are instances where showering is simply not in the cards. What are your alternatives? Luckily, there are a few.
The obvious choice when you want to feel fresh and clean is daily application of deodorant or antiperspirant. But what’s the difference? To put it simply, deodorant masks inevitable odors, while antiperspirant blocks wetness altogether. In recent years, antiperspirant has been labeled by some as dangerous, linking to diseases such as breast cancer and Alzheimer’s. However, there is also an exceptional amount of research that says there is in fact no link between antiperspirant use and these diseases - so it’s up to you to decide what’s right for your body.
Deodorants and antiperspirants come in different strengths, and vary across different brands. If you get particularly sweaty and/or stinky, a clinical strength stick may be right for you. If you don’t find you’re working up that much of a sweat, you can feel confident using a lighter option.
Another option is using body powder, or talcum powder, which is designed to absorb excess oil and wetness from your skin and hair. These powders are great for after the gym, or if you find you need a little refresher throughout the day. Powders are also helpful when you’re forced to skip a hair wash. Simply rub a small amount on your hands, or sprinkle some onto your hair brush, and comb through your hair until it has disappeared. Be aware, however, that these powders can sometimes (but not all the time) build up, leaving an unpleasant texture behind. Try to avoid applying more than once to the same area.
These little gems are ideal for tossing into your gym bag, keeping in your desk at work, or wherever else you desire. They do exactly as their name indicates: simply wipe where you’re feeling less than fresh for an instant cleanse. These wipes are typically infused with skin conditioning and moisturizing ingredients, and leave a light, fresh scent.
Now you’re fully equipped with the knowledge of how to counteract the sweaty evidence of a strenuous workout. Or how to steal a few more minutes of sleep in the morning. Your choice.
